CORNER PUAKENIKENI

   In the bottom corner of our yard, on the side of the old pig pen, stands a beautiful pua kenikeni tree. Unlike the other pieces in this collection, this design does NOT hold a story. My family has never played around this tree or made hula implements from this tree. The reason why this plant was chosen for design is because it is simply beautiful.

    It’s amazing how some of the most beautiful things in life go unnoticed. The pua kenikeni tree has been in our backyard for years yet no one pays no mind to it. This doesn’t mean it’s not worth paying attention to. Pua kenikeni is a well known flower in Hawai’i and often used for lei making because of its beauty and fragrance.

    This design is dedicated to the pua kenikeni mindset. That pua kenikeni tree standing alone in the corner where no one comes to pick its flowers, and no one comes to trim its branches. No matter the situation, the pua kenikeni still blooms, the tree still stands, and the beauty still shines.
